Beer for Chicks?

I once met some guy, and he offered to buy me a beer in this coastal tavern.  I said, no thanks, I'm good.  Just then the bartender brought me an Abita Turbo Dog.

He goes, like, " That's a strong beer for a girl."

So I ask (not wishing to appear unfeminine), "What kind do you recommend for me?"

His reply was something like "Bud, or Mic, or Red Stripe, or maybe a Sam Adams Light."

And it dawned on me:  He thinks lagers are for girls; ales or porters are too much for them.

I wonder what he would have thought had I asked for a Guinness Stout?  Would that have gotten my girly girl card revoked? Not wishing to trouble his Weltanschauung, perhaps I should have asked for a Sam Adams. I guess I'm a supporter of certain stereotypes after all.

My daughter is a fan of the stouts.
Taste is different for everybody.
To each, his own (or her own).

I guess I'm a girl because I can't stand hoppy bitter beers.

A turbo dog is a nice stout. Good choice, in my book.

Here in the land of micro brewers, I am learning about beer. BUT the neighborhood place that has Rolling Rock has my heart because I grew up on RR back when it was ultra-regional tiny beer from the 'glass lined tanks of old Latrobe (PA)' My underage beer is now national! Just like me....I look forward to more of your observations and adventures, Angel

Aren't real ales the kind of beer connoisseurs prefer?

i don't drink beer at all, so can't offer an opinion, other than drink whatever tastes good!

I enjoy ambers the most, but also like lagers and pilsners. I remember Rolling Rock in NY state as a kid.
The variety of beers since the microbrew movement is terrific. There are some fantastic names and labels out there.

Keep the posts coming!

Guiness and the stronger ales and stouts are better for fall and winter; I prefer a lighter brew during hot weather ... a good hefeweizen is great on a hot day.

You are not from Wisconsin, nor was this guy. It's obvious.
Our girls drink what we drink.
