Music - "Jolie Blonde"

"Jolie Blonde" is the most loved and most played Cajun Song. It's also known as "Jole Blon." Here's Waylon Thibodeaux's rendition:

For the song lyrics in Acadian French and English, go to Jo-El Sonnier's version.

Regretfully, I found no "Jolie Blonde" instrumental involving the accordion. Or maybe, it's just as well, given the reception that accordion music may get.

  1. OK, EPT, lemme get 2.5 cents in edgewise here.

I've been to countless -- literally "countless" -- concerts, and my favorite one was the first time I saw Waylon Jennings. (I saw him a total of 4 times, and every show was great, but the first one, where I had to stand the entire time [standing room only] was my favorite. He even told one loud-mouthed jerk standing near me to "Shut up!" and he did!!)

Waylon was from the South, but Texas, not Louisiana. He did, however, record this song. If it wasn't the first song he ever recorded, it was close to it. And it was produced by the legendary Buddy Holly (Waylon was the bass player for Buddy's "Crickets". He was supposed to be on that plane that crashed and killed everyone, but he gave his ticket to The Big Bopper at the last moment and decided to drive instead. I guess God wanted "Outlaw Country" music to be invented a couple decades later.)

Anyway, here's Waylon and Buddy Holly doing the song. Read all the comments (it's pretty funny!) Waylon had no idea what he was trying to sing!

  2. Can't say if I've heard this before or if I haven't. A lot of Cajun songs sound similar to my untrained ear, but I've been like that with other musical styles as well. I'd be fine with accordion, but I do have a partiality to the fiddle so that's good too.

  3. Sounds fine to me. I'm not sure an accordion would make that much difference, but I'd like to hear a version with one. I'll go find one...
