The Lumberjack

Once upon a time, a very strong lumberjack asked for a job chopping trees and he got it. The pay was really good and so were the work conditions and benefits. For those reasons, this woodcutter was determined to do his best.

His boss gave him an axe and showed him the area where he supposed to work.

The first day, the lumberjack brought 18 trees.

“Congratulations,” the boss said. “Go on that way!”

Very motivated by the boss words, the lumberjack tried harder the next day, but he could only bring 15 trees.

The third day he tried even harder, but he could only bring 10 trees. Day after day he was bringing still fewer trees.

“I must be losing my strength”, the lumberjack thought. He went to the boss and apologized, saying that he could not understand what was going on.

“When was the last time you sharpened your axe?” the boss asked.

“Sharpen? I had no time to sharpen my axe. I have been very busy trying to cut trees…”

  1. There's also the story of the skinny little fellow who showed up at a lumber camp looking for work as a lumberjack. The foreman laughed and said, "You don't even look strong enough to pick up an axe!", but the man begged for a chance, so the foreman pointed to a nearby sapling and told him to cut it down. He did, with one stroke. The foreman sent him to increasingly bigger trees, all of which he cut down in seconds. Finally the foreman was convinced, and asked the little man where he'd learned such skill. "In the Sahara Forest," the little man replied. "Sahara Forest? You mean, the Sahara Desert!" replied the foreman. The new lumberjack looked at him and said, "Sure ... now."

  2. Sure, he has the facial hair and the plaid shirt, but no self-respecting lumberjack would ever have a man-bun!

  3. Excellent point!

  4. Old Abe had a good comment about using the axe as well. Good post, Angel.

  5. I knew this guy was an ametuer lumberjack right off the bat when he didn't bring his own axe.

  6. Lumberjacks would not be okay with that?!

  7. Is the moral of the story that lumberjacks need to sharpen their wits before they sharpen their axes? As a gorilla, I side with the trees - the last thing they need is smart lumberjacks.
