First, the good and the bad (you pick what it is in both cases):
Amid a sea of lions, tigers, bears, and other sports teams with charismatic mascots, there are a few with unique or charming ones, Here's a selection of the more unusual ones:
South Dakota Tech HardRockers |
University of Delaware Blue Hens |
Webster University Golorks |
Centenary College Gentlemen |
St. Louis University Billikens |
Fayetteville Fire Antz (pro hockey) |
University of Akron Zips |
Idaho Vandals |
I wouldn't mind seeing a fine Georgia girl at the game rooting for the Dogs while wearing a UGA bikini top.
ReplyDeleteAmazing. I would really love to know what some of these schools were thinking when picking these mascots xD.
ReplyDeleteI've actually seen the Fireants play before against the Knoxville Icebears :).
Icebears, as opposed to Polar Bears?
DeleteWhat is a golork? Or a billiken?
ReplyDeleteApparently a bikkilen is a lucky creature, like one of those cats in Chinese restaurants.
DeleteA pretty gal in a UT halter? What a waste.......
ReplyDeleteBanana Slugs is by far the best!
ReplyDeleteIt's funny that two of these are in the St. Louis area and Duck has zero'd in on both of them. I can't remember what the explanations are for them but I was at an event at Webster last night and the Gorlock mascot was there. I high fived him.
ReplyDeleteI remember the speaker at the event saying something about the head of a St. Bernard. She explained the rest of the build of the body but I can't remember what it all was.
(So he says to himself, go to the net dummy..)

Mike, did you wash your hands after the high five?
DeleteThe orange bikini looks like a possibility.
ReplyDeleteI would like one too.
DeleteThey have so-so biscuits in Montgomery. Still, there's too good for the Alabama legislature.
ReplyDeleteI like the slugs and biscuits!
ReplyDeleteThere was a contest in the Washington Post years ago in which one was to pick the name of any real town anywhere in the US, and then name the local high school sports team. My favorite was the Lackawanna (Pennsylvania) Underachievers, but the winner was the Broad Run Farms (Virginia) Agribusinesswomen.
